The Self-Esteem Workshop Series
Adult
Self-esteem is more than how you feel about yourself. Self-esteem is linked to what we believe about ourselves. Those messages we received in the earlier years of our lives. The narratives we came to believe over time through experiences of trials, tribulations and adversity. But what if you could view yourself differently? What would that person look like; how would you be defined? The Self-Esteem Workshop Series for Adults will incorporate reflection and skill development to guide participants in defining yourself based on your own perception The workshop will target negative self-talk, misperceptions and the effects of past experiences to remind participants of who they are meant to be.

The Self-Esteem Workshop Series Youth
We know the view that we have of ourselves as adults, begins in childhood. We also know if we could have had an opportunity to receive support around: having questions answered or opportunities of self-expression, we would not hesitate to sign up. The Self-Esteem Workshop Series for Youth will guide youth in open discussion regarding current experiences (home/community, school, church). The workshop will take the form of a community-building circle to facilitate open, safe and brave dialogues. Youth will engage in activities that target characteristic descriptions, value identification, beliefs and how they are integrated into their daily life experiences. Youth will also reflect on who they endeavor to be as they mature into adulthood.

Translating Student Voice Into Student Action through SEL
We often hear that a key purpose of schooling is to prepare students for informed and active citizenship. But what does this look like in practice? How do teachers pursue this goal amid other pressing priorities, including student mastery of both academic content and social-emotional competencies? Students Taking Action Together (STAT), is an instructional strategy teachers and mental health professionals (e.g., school psychologist, social worker, counselor) can use within existing content that builds students’ SEL skills in empathy, perspective taking, emotion regulation, problem-solving, and respectful, effective communication. STAT is based on a program of the same name developed at Rutgers University, and clarifies that the way to prepare young people for life in a democracy is by intentionally rehearsing democratic behaviors in the classroom. This is a field-tested program.
